What is ARCHETYPICAL PROGRESSION ?

The Archetypical Progression is a kind of decoding-system for the human experience. The archetypical traits are derived from the whole/counting numbers, describe typical human behaviour and let us understand it in a novel way. Through this understanding, a new potential is created, especially in the way we live our relationships.

What is different about the system as compared to numerology or the enneagram et al., is not only its ability to convey an understanding of the interaction between archetypes, but also to dissolve habitual patterns due to persistent value judgements. Typical behaviour, such as between genders, can not only be seen in a new light, but conflict patterns (shame and blame) recognised as the result of judgements rooting in an identification with our archetype. We then are in a position to resolve those patterns and have a CHOICE as to how to proceed.

The MODULARITY of the system allows one to expand on it logically in unforeseen situations. In particular, it is useful when analyzing and attempting to resolve repetitive and polarizing relationship dynamics.

QUESTIONS TO MARK HARVEY:

How did you arrive at the idea of creating the Archetypical Progression?

Originally, I wanted to find a lingua franca, a universal language, for describing human behaviour, which would resonate across esoterics and psychology. Later, I realized that I couldn't separate the human condition from how the universe itself evolves. The goal became the construction of a system that would both describe the most basic aspects of the universe and reveal how they correspond to our experience as humans - that is, help us understand the human condition. And the archetypical progression was born: a system of propagated differentiation describing our beginnings and development on the material plane. And providing us with clues regarding our purposes and paths as human beings.

I arrived at the concept of progression after reading up on cosmology's view of the evolution of the universe (Red Shift). Similarly, I was intrigued by Plato's first mover, a philosophical construct drawing from the imagined characteristics of such a being, those that were to follow, their roles in the universe, not to mention various numerological systems.

In accordance with the evolutionary process of the universe, the system that I was about to create had to use simple symbols that could be sequenced and defined in a series of single clear steps. My conclusion was: what could describe a succession of any/all "thing(s)" better, at their most basic and innermost, than the counting numbers?

Based on the above, I was able to compile the "core" archetypes as deducted from the individual numbers and describe their dynamics in interaction with each other.

What makes AP so unique and relevant for us today?

Because of its use of numbers and the knowledge on archetypes derived from them, AP conveys "neutral" information concerning aspects of our human condition, which are normally charged with emotions and convictions. We can access very deep layers/levels of knowledge and experience with a directness that is beyond traditional psychologies, philosophies or interpretations. This provides us with the possibility of CHOICE.

Of course, this approach is quite abstract on one level as it draws from theories originating in various hard and soft sciences, woven together into a universal system. Yet we could say that it is precisely the abstraction which makes for the potential of this approach. This abstraction as a "decoding" of creation into a neutral language supplies us with a perspective on life beyond traditional (belief) systems, without negating, but rather enhancing them.
